At Ideogram, our focus is on making diagramming as seamless and dynamic as possible. We’ve introduced several enhancements to our diagramming tool over the past few months—so many that it’s easy to overlook some! Today, we’re rounding up all our new diagramming features to get you up to speed on the latest and greatest that Ideogram has to offer.
Diagram as code
The new diagram as code feature has been highly requested by our users, and we’re thrilled to make it available! Now, you can easily code a diagram directly into an Ideogram document using Mermaid coding. The image will appear in your document.
You can code a wide variety of diagrams with this feature, including flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, state diagrams, C4 models, Gantt charts, Euler vs. Venn diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams, and Sankey diagrams.
Please note that when using this feature, the diagram will only be editable through the code, not on the canvas.
Generate diagram
You can now utilize AI to visualize data faster and more seamlessly than ever before. Simply type in a prompt, and Ideogram’s AI will auto-generate a flowchart, sequence diagram, class diagram, or entity-relationship diagram. From there, you can continue using AI prompts to iterate on the diagram until you achieve the exact visual you need.
Quick diagramming
With the release of our quick diagramming features, you can create your best work in just a few clicks, without the need to navigate back and forth from the menu. These new features make it easier and more intuitive to craft powerful diagrams, with additional tools available directly on the canvas. This release includes four main features:
Quick shape changes
If you need to modify the look of your diagram, there’s no longer a need to manually delete and replace a shape. A new button now lets you effortlessly swap a shape in your diagram with another one—all while preserving the text inside.
Easy shape add
Effortlessly add a shape to an existing line in your diagram by simply dragging the shape onto the canvas and positioning it where you want. The line will automatically adjust to place the shape perfectly in the middle, with new connecting lines created. This feature allows you to build your diagram as quickly as you develop new ideas.
Editing styles
Strengthen your brand by ensuring all your diagrams and flowcharts maintain a consistent theme. You can apply one of our preset theme styles to your work with a single click. Additionally, you can set a specific theme style as the default for all future work on the document.

Alternatively, create a custom theme style that aligns with your established branding or best practices to apply to your Ideogram document. Simply use the Primary Toolbar on the left side of the editor to select your preferred colors and line widths.
Conditional formatting updates
Conditional formatting is a powerful tool that lets your diagrams work for you by applying rules that highlight key data or visually alert you when something needs attention. With our new updates, you can now choose from preset styles attached to specific rules, or create your own by selecting custom fill, text, and border colors and styles. For instance, you could automatically assign a specific color to any shape containing text, while shapes without text take on a different color.

Additionally, when working with a swimlane diagram, you can create a rule for each swimlane, and styles will update in real time as you move shapes between sections. This feature helps clarify complex diagrams, making them easier for viewers to understand at a glance.
